about

This album is the culmination of a dream nearly forty years in the making. It draws on several works I wrote as a young composer, including a theme and three variations for traditional instruments, several hours' worth of musique concrete created using tape-editing techniques, and a handful of more contemporary sounds (for 1991) sequenced on a trusty Amiga 500.

Alternating between calming ("Toon Ice") and unsettling ("Three Variables"), un_sound_tracks evokes the uncertainties of the times in which it was written, those being the late 20th and early 21st centuries. It contains echoes of a documentary not yet made, recounting the fall of one world and the rise of another. It is an accompaniment for our age, redolent with the static of history.

What does it sound like? Well, you'll hear flashes of Lustmord, The Caretaker, and maybe some Steve Roach, all artists that have influenced me down the years.

Purchasing the album unlocks a one-hour bonus track, "Release the Ambient", that I like to listen to while I'm writing. Imho, all of this music is good to write to, but that track in particular.

Clicking on each track here will reveal notes regarding source and creation. Many of the original sources are available online, unmodified. See impossiblemusic.info/blog for more details.

theadelaidean Adelaide, Australia

Original and collaborative ambient soundscapes.

My albums with Projekt Records and Aerozine 50 are very much in the drone/lofi vein, without the weird surprises you might find here.

By day I'm a writer and educator at Flinders University in Adelaide, South Australia.
